BREADED FISH FILLET (INDIAN STYLE)
Jump to RecipeBreaded fish fillet is a quick, easy-to-make, fried snack or an appetizer made with boneless fish. The boneless fish fillet is marinated with spices like garlic powder, ginger powder, chilly powder, lemon juice and salt. It is then coated with breadcrumbs and fried/baked until golden brown.
Breaded fish fillet has a crunchy and flavourful outer with a tender, moist and flaky inside. It is ideal for a quick snack or as an appetizer. Breaded fish fillet is commonly served with lemon wedges and tartar sauce, and can also be paired with side dishes like fries and salad.
ABOUT THE RECIPE:
Generally, breaded fish fillet includes a 3 step breading process. But, Indian style breaded fish fillet is a single step process, where the marinated fish is directly coated with breadcrumbs and fried in hot oil. It has a very thin single layer breading to it, unlike other breaded fish fillet.
I’ve used tilapia for this recipe. Fishes like tilapia, cod and basa can also be used for this recipe.
This recipe can either be made in a pan or baked/air fried. For baking, place the breaded fish on a wire rack set over a baking sheet, and bake at 220 C for 20 -25 minutes. Spray little oil for extra crunch.
INGREDIENTS FOR BREADED FISH FILLET:

- GINGER POWDER – 1/2 TSP
- SALT – AS REQUIRED
- LEMON JUICE – 1 TSP

HOW TO MAKE BREADED FISH FILLET:
- Clean and wash the fish thoroughly with water.

- In a mixing bowl, add the chilly powder, garam masala, garlic powder, ginger powder, salt and lemon juice.

- Add little water, and mix it to a slightly thick paste.

- Coat the masala onto the fish, cover it, and let it rest in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes.

- After 30 minutes, heat a pan and add 4 tbsp of oil to it.
- Meanwhile, spread the breadcrumbs onto a plate, and add the marinated fish to it.

- Coat the breadcrumbs on all sides of the fish.

- Gently add the breadcrumb coated fish to the hot oil. Add 1 or 2 at a time. Do not over crowd.

- Wait for 20 -25 seconds, and then flip it. Fry it, until it turns golden brown in color on both sides.
- Once it turns golden brown in color, transfer it to a plate with tissue paper. The tissue paper helps to absorb the excess oil.

- Repeat the process with the remaining fish.
