PANEER TAWA ROAST
Jump to RecipePaneer tawa roast is a flavorful Indian dish where soft cubes of paneer are cooked on a flat griddle (tawa) with a spicy, aromatic masala. It is known for its rich, slightly smoky taste and vibrant color. This dish has a balance of heat, tanginess and mild creaminess. Butter or oil adds richness, while fresh coriander leaves gives a burst of freshness at the end.
paneer tawa roast is typically served hot as a side dish or starter, often paired with roti, naan or even as a filling for wraps. It’s especially popular in South Indian restaurants, where it carries a slightly spicier kick compared to North Indian paneer dishes.
ABOUT THE RECIPE:
I’ve used homemade PANEER for this recipe. Store bought regular paneer is commonly preferred for this recipe. Malai paneer doesn’t really work for this recipe. Malai paneer has a much softer texture compared to the regular paneer. For this recipe, the paneer should maintain the firm texture and should hold it’s shape, while fried on the tawa.
INGREDIENTS FOR PANEER TAWA ROAST:
- PANEER (BITE SIZED CUBES) – 250 GMS
- CHILLY POWDER – 1 TBSP
- CORIANDER POWDER – 1 TBSP
- GARAM MASALA – 1TSP
- GINGER GARLIC PASTE – 1 TSP
- LEMON JUICE – 1 TBSP
- SALT – AS REQUIRED
- OIL – 1 TSP + 2 TBSP (FOR FRYING)
- CORIANDER LEAVES – FOR GARNISHING
HOW TO MAKE PANEER TAWA ROAST:
- In a large mixing bowl, add 1 tbsp of chilly powder, 1 tbsp of coriander powder, 1 tsp of garam masala, 1 tsp of ginger garlic paste, 1 tbsp of lemon juice, 1 tsp of oil and salt to it.

- Mix everything well. It should have a consistency of a fine paste. Sprinkle little water if required.

- Add the paneer cubes one at a time and coat them in the spice mixture. Add all the paneer cubes at a time might cause breakage.
- Cover it and let it rest in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes.

- After about 30 minutes, remove the marinated paneer from the refrigerator. Heat a pan/tawa and add 2 tbsp of oil to it. Once the oil is heated, add the paneer cubes to the pan/tawa. Add them in a single layer.

- Maintain the flame at medium-high. Let it cook on one side for about 2 minutes, and then turn it gently. Do not turn the paneer quite often. Let it cook until the masala turns dark golden brown in color.

- Once it turns dark golden brown in color, garnish it with coriander leaves and turn off the flame.
