CHICKEN KARI DOSA
Jump to RecipeDosa or dosai is a traditional and a popular South Indian breakfast. There are so many different types of dosa. The batter is usually the same, but the toppings added to it varies. The taste and flavour of the dosa depends on the toppings added to it. The topping added to the dosa can be either vegetarian or non-vegetarian.
Kari(meat) dosa is one of the most popular non-vegetarian style dosa. It was originated from the city of Madurai, Tamil nadu. Traditionally, it is made using goat meat (mutton), which is called as mutton kari dosa.
In recent times, the traditional recipe has been modified with chicken or seafood, instead of mutton. The recipe made with chicken is called as chicken kari dosa. It is usually served with salna, and can be had either for breakfast or for dinner.
ABOUT THE RECIPE:
I’ve used SHREDDED CHICKEN THOKKU to make chicken kari dosa. Any chicken curry/fry can be used. But, make sure to remove the bones from the chicken before adding it to the recipe.
The recipe in this blog is a measurement for one chicken kari dosa (single serving). Adjust the measurements according to your preference.
INGREDIENTS FOR CHICKEN KARI DOSA:
- IDLY / DOSA BATTER – 1/2 CUP
- SHREDDED CHICKEN THOKKU – 3 TBSP
- EGG – 1 NO.
- SALT – AS REQUIRED
- OIL – 1 TSP
HOW TO MAKE CHICKEN KARI DOSA:
- In a mixing bowl, add 3 tbsp of shredded chicken thokku, 1 egg and salt.
* Add salt only for the egg. Shredded chicken thokku and dosa batter already has salt added to it.

- Mix everything well and keep it aside.

- Heat a dosa tawa. Turn the flame to medium-low and add 1/2 cup of dosa batter to it. Spread the dosa batter.
*Do not spread it completely. It has to be thick like an uthappam and not like a thin and crispy dosa.

- Add the chicken and egg mixture to the dosa batter and spread it evenly.

- Add 1 tsp of oil to all the sides of the dosa.

- Turn the flame to medium-high. Let it cook for 30 to 40 seconds on one side and then turn it.

- Cook it for another 1 minute. Since, it has a thick layer, it takes time to completely cook through.
- Once it is completely cooked, transfer it to a plate.
