PAAL ICE

Paal ice or milk popsicle is a most popular dessert in the 70’s and 80’s. It is like an ice cream for the people born in 70’s and 80’s. I haven’t seen it or, tasted it since, it is not available now. But, I’ve heard about it, a lot of times.

Everytime, we have ice cream in our home, I hear some story about paal ice. My mom is a big fan of paal ice, and obviously has too many childhood memories like, how she sneak out to get paal ice.

Milk is the main ingredient of paal ice. The milk is boiled with sugar and corn flour slurry, and then frozen for upto 4 to 6 hours. Ingredients like vanilla essence, milk powder and few other ingredients are also added to it. But, I made it with basic ingredient since, ingredients like milk powder and vanilla essence were not available during 70’s and 80’s.

ABOUT THE RECIPE:

I made this paal ice specially for my mom. I created this recipe, according to how my mom described it. It turned out really great, and my mom was really happy to enjoy her favorite popsicle after years. This is a really easy recipe and, it makes around 8 – 10 popsicles.

INGREDIENTS FOR PAAL ICE:

  • FULL FAT MILK – 500 ML
  • SUGAR – 1/2 CUP(AROUND 8 TBSP)
  • CORN STARCH – 1 TBSP

HOW TO MAKE PAAL ICE:

  • Heat a kadai, and add 500 ml of full fat milk.
  • Add 1/2 cup of sugar to the milk, and let it come to boil.
  • Mix 1 tbsp of cornstarch to 2 tbsp of water.
  • When the milk starts to boil, add the cornstarch slurry to the milk.
  • Mix well. It will start to thicken within seconds.
  • While it start to thicken, turn off the flame.
  • Let it cool down for 2 minutes, and then pour it into popsicle mould.
  • Freeze it for 6 hours.
  • After 6 hours, dip the popsicle mould in warm water for few seconds, and remove the pop from the mould.

YUMMY AND DELICIOUS PAAL ICE IS READY.
