Chaat is a broad category of savory street snacks that originated in the Indian subcontinent, especially popular in North India. It is known for its bold mix of flavours and textures. Chaat is a staple of Indian street food culture, especially in cities like Delhi, where it’s enjoyed as a quick, affordable snack bursting with flavor.

Chole chaat is a savory snack or light meal where boiled chickpeas are tossed with spices, chutneys and fresh ingredients to create a flavourful mix. It is served in small bowls or leaf plates, and is a classic example of vibrant chaat culture. Chole chaat is a protein-rich, tangy and spicy chickpea snack that’s filling and flavorful.

ABOUT THE RECIPE:

Plain boiled chickpeas are commonly used for this recipe. But, I’ve replaced it with ALOO CHOLE for this recipe. Using aloo chole instead of plain boiled chickpeas enhances the taste and flavour of the recipe.

Sev is usually added as a topping to give the crunchy texture to it. But, it can be also be topped with crispy puris, papdi or even yogurt for extra flavour and texture.

INGREDIENTS FOR CHOLE CHAAT (FOR SINGLE SERVING):

HOW TO MAKE CHOLE CHAAT:

  • Add 2 tbsp of tamarind date chutney and green chutney to it.

Ingredients

  • ALOO CHOLE – 1 CUP

  • ONION (DICED) – 3 TBSP

  • CORIANDER LEAVES (CHOPPED) – 2 TBSP

  • TAMARIND DATE CHUTNEY – 2 TBSP

  • GREEN CHUTNEY – 2 TBSP

  • CUMIN POWDER – 1/2 TSP

  • CHAAT MASALA – 1/2 TSP

  • SEV – 2 TBSP

Directions

  • Add 1 cup of ALOO CHOLE to a bowl.
  • Add 2 tbsp of tamarind date chutney and green chutney to it.
  • Then sprinkle 1/2 tsp of cumin powder and chaat masala to it.
  • Garnish it with diced onions, chopped coriander and sev.
  • YUMMY AND DELICIOUS CHOLE CHAAT IS READY. SERVE IT IMMEDIATELY.
