BREAD OMELETTE
Jump to RecipeBread omelette is a popular street-style dish made by combining eggs with slices of bread, creating a quick, filling, and flavourful meal. The soft, fluffy omelette fused with crispy bread, often enhanced with butter, cheese or spicy chutneys. It is commonly served hot, folded like a sandwich and can be paired with ketchup or spicy sauces.
Bread omelette is made by pouring beaten eggs onto a hot pan and cooked like an omlette. Slices of bread are then placed directly onto the cooking eggs. The whole thing is flipped and toasted until the bread becomes slightly crispy and golden. Sauces and cheese are added to enhance the taste and flavour of the recipe.
ABOUT THE RECIPE:
Spices and herbs like chilly flakes, onions, coriander leaves and green chillies are commonly added while beating eggs. But, I prefer just eggs and salt for this recipe. This gives the natural taste and flavour of the eggs.
I’ve used GREEN CHUTNEY for this recipe. Any spicy sauces can be replaced with green chutney. Tandoori sauce and chipotle sauce are some of my favourite sauces that goes really well with this recipe. Grated or sliced cheese can also be added along with the sauce.
INGREDIENTS FOR BREAD OMELETTE (FOR SINGLE SERVING):
- EGGS – 2 NOS.
- BREAD SLICE – 2 NOS.
- GREEN CHUTNEY – 2 TBSP
- SALT – AS REQUIRED
- OIL/BUTTER – 1 TBSP
HOW TO MAKE BREAD OMLETTE:
- Crack open 2 eggs in a mixing bowl. Add required salt and whisk it well.

- Heat a pan/tawa, and add 1 tbsp of butter to it.

- Once the butter starts to melt, add the beaten eggs to the pan. Maintain the flame at medium-low.

- Gently place the bread onto the eggs on the tawa. It will soak up the uncooked beaten egg. Then turn the bread to other side and place it over the egg. The bread will stick to the eggs as it cooks.

- Once it starts to turn light golden brown on the corners, flip the omelette along with the bread slices.

- Let it cook it for around 30~40 seconds, and then flip it. It should have light golden brown patches onto it. If not, flip it again and cook it for another 10~20 seconds.

- Spread the green chutney on one slice of the bread. Cheese can also be added on top of the chutney(optional).

- Turn off the flame, and fold the sides of the omelette as shown in the image below.

- Then fold the omelette into half. Bread slices should be placed on top of eachother, and should look like a sandwich.

- Transfer it to a plate and serve it hot.
