CRAB SOUP (INDIAN STYLE)

Crab soup is a popular and a traditional recipe of Tamil nadu. It has a watery consistency and is usually made with freshly ground masala. It is most commonly preferred during winters, especially when someone has a cold or flu.

Crab has a natural body heating properties. Also, the spices like pepper, cumin, ginger and garlic added in this recipe are packed with antioxidants and helps to boost immunity. The spicy nature of these ingredients soothes cold and flu symptoms.

ABOUT THE RECIPE:

I mostly like have crab soup for lunch along with a starter. So, I make 2 recipes at a time. I usually use around 1 kg of crab for both the recipes. I boil them, and use 1 whole crab and the stock for the soup. I use the remaining crab to make a starter. This time I made CRAB LOLLIPOP along with my soup.

INGREDIENTS FOR CRAB SOUP:

  • CRAB – 1 NO.
  • ONION (MEDIUM SIZE/DICED) – 1 NO.
  • TOMATO (MEDIUM SIZE/DICED) – 1 NO.
  • GREEN CHILLIES – 2 NOS.
  • CHILLY POWDER – 1 TSP
  • GARAM MASALA – 1/2 TSP
  • PEPPERCORNS – 1 TSP
  • CUMIN SEEDS – 1 TSP
  • GINGER – 1 INCH
  • GARLIC – 5 NOS.
  • SALT – AS REQUIRED
  • OIL – 2 TBSP
  • CURRY LEAVES – FOR GARNISHING
  • CORIANDER LEAVES – FOR GARNISHING

HOW TO MAKE CRAB SOUP:

  • Remove the top shell of the crab and clean it.

  • Add the cleaned crab to a cooking pot and add around 1 litre of water to it.

  • Turn on the flame and let it boil for around 10 minutes or until it gets cooked completely.

  • Meanwhile, add the ginger, garlic, peppercorns and cumin seeds to a blender and blend it to a coarse mixture.

  • After 10 minutes, Turn off the flame and let it cool down completely. Reserve the crab stock.

  • I’ve slightly crushed it and separated some meat from the shell. Crab can also be added as a whole. Keep it aside.

  • Heat a pot and add 2 tbsp of oil to it.

  • Once the oil is heated, add the diced onions to it. Saute it for 30 to 40 seconds.

  • Then add the green chillies to it and saute for 10 seconds.

  • Also, add the diced tomatoes to it and saute it for 10 to 15 seconds.

  • After 15 seconds, turn the flame to medium-low and add salt, chilly powder, garam masala and the blended mixture to it.

  • Mix it well. Let it cook on medium-low for about 1 minute.

  • Turn the flame to medium-high, and add the crab stock to it and let it boil.

  • Once it starts to boil, add the crab meat to it.

  • Let it boil completely for about 5 minutes.

  • After it boils for around 5 minutes, garnish it with curry leaves and coriander leaves.

Directions

  • Let it boil completely for about 5 minutes.
  • After it boils for around 5 minutes, garnish it with curry leaves and coriander leaves.
  • Mix it and turn off the flame.
  • YUMMY AND DELICIOUS CRAB SOUP IS READY.
