Frosting is a thick and fluffy creamy glaze used for spreading or piping on cakes and cupcakes. Butter, cream and cream cheese are some of the basic ingredients used to make a frosting. It has a rich and stable texture to it. There are so many different types of frosting. Buttercream frosting, cream cheese frosting and whipped cream frosting are some of the most commonly used frosting.

Buttercream frosting is one of the simplest and an easiest frosting, that can be made within minutes. It is a butter-based frosting, which has a rich, creamy and fluffy texture to it. Vanilla buttercream frosting is a basic flavour that goes really well with almost any kind of cake. Any flavour can be substituted with vanilla according to our preference.

ABOUT THE RECIPE:

There are so many different types of buttercream frosting. This recipe is an American buttercream frosting. This buttercream is primarily made with butter and sugar. This recipe doesn’t involve any eggs, which makes it more suitable for vegetarians.

This buttercream frosting can be stored in refrigerator for about 1 month, and can be stored in freezer for about 3 months. Make sure to beat it once before piping.

INGREDIENTS FOR VANILLA BUTTERCREAM FROSTING:

  • UNSALTED BUTTER – 250 GMS
  • POWDERED SUGAR – 450 GMS
  • FULL FAT MILK – 2 TBSP
  • VANILLA ESSENCE – 2 TSP

DESCRIPTION:

  • UNSALTED BUTTER – For this recipe, unsalted butter works better than salted butter. This recipe can be made only with softened butter. Keep the butter at room temperature until it turns soft.
  • POWDERED SUGAR – Sieve the powdered sugar before using it. It might contain lumps, which can spoil the texture of the frosting.
  • FULL FAT MILK – Full fat milk is added to get the perfect consistency for the frosting. It can also be replaced with whipping cream.
  • VANILLA ESSENCE – Use a good quality vanilla essence/extract. Fresh vanilla bean can also be substituted with vanilla essence.

HOW TO MAKE VANILLA BUTTERCREAM FROSTING:

  • Add the softened unsalted butter to a mixing bowl.

  • Beat it until it turns light and fluffy. Hand mixer or stand mixer can be used.

  • Once it turns light and fluffy, add the powdered sugar in 2 to 3 batches. Beat it on low for a minute and then gradually increase the speed.

  • Beat it until it is well combined. It should have a thick consistency.

  • Also, add 2 tbsp of milk and 2 tsp of vanilla essence to it.

VANILLA BUTTERCREAM FROSTING IS READY.

ADD IT TO A PIPING BAG AND FROST IT TO ANY CAKE OR CUPCAKE.
