RAVA LADOO

Rava ladoo is a popular and a traditional dessert of South India. It is an easy recipe and it hardly involves any cooking. Powdered rava and powdered sugar are mixed together along with ghee and then rolled into bite sized balls. This is an instant recipe, and can be made within 15 minutes.

Ladoo is traditional Indian sweets, made from a mixture of various kinds of flour, sugar and ghee which is shaped into a ball. There are so many different kinds of ladoo, and rava ladoo is one among them. It is one of the easiest recipe too.

ABOUT THE RECIPE:

This is a traditional recipe that we’ve been following in our family for generations. We usually make this in bulk quantity, probably around 4 times the measure of ingredients in this blog. The measurement in this blog, makes around 15 rava ladoo. Also, it can be stored at room temperature for about 1 week.

INGREDIENTS FOR RAVA LADOO:

  • RAVA – 1 CUP
  • SUGAR – 3/4 CUP
  • GHEE – 150 GMS
  • CHOPPED CASHEWS – 1/4 CUP
  • CARDAMOM POWDER – 1/4 TSP

HOW TO MAKE RAVA LADOO:

  • Heat a kadai, and add 1 tsp of ghee to it.
  • Once the ghee is heated, add 1 cup of rava to it.
  • Roast it until it changes color. Once it turns to light brown in color, transfer it to a plate. Let it cool down.
  • Once it cools down completely, transfer it to a blender, and blend it to a fine powder.
  • Transfer it to a large mixing bowl.
  • Add 3/4th cup of sugar to a blender, and blend it to a fine powder. Also, transfer it to the same mixing bowl.
  • Heat a tadka pan, and add ghee to it. Once the ghee is heated, add chopped cashews to it and roast it until it turns to light golden brown in color.
  • Once the cashews turn golden brown in color, transfer it to a plate. Let the ghee cool down a little bit.
  • Once the temperature of the ghee reduces, add it to the mixing bowl. Also, add the cashews to the mixing bowl

*The rava ladoo won’t hold its shape when the ghee is too hot. It might start to melt.

  • Add 1/4 tsp of cardamom powder to the mixture.
  • Mix them well, and roll them into bite sized balls.
  • Roll and press it tight, so that it won’t fall apart easily. Store it in an airtight container.

YUMMY AND DELICIOUS RAVA LADOO IS READY.

PRO TIPS:

  • Roast the rava until it turns to light golden brown in color.
  • Blend the roasted rava and sugar to a fine powder.
  • Let the ghee cool down, before adding to the mixture.
  • Roll the balls little tight so that it can hold its shape.
