SUGARCANE JUICE
Jump to Recipe

Sugarcane juice is a fresh, naturally sweet drink made by crushing peeled sugarcane stalks to extract their juice. It has a light golden-green color with a clean, grassy sweetness and a cool, refreshing taste. It is often served chilled with a squeeze of lemon along with a hint of ginger and mint. It is especially popular during hot summer.

Sugarcane juice is naturally rich in energy-boosting sugars, electrolytes and minerals. It is easy to digest and is well-known for its hydrating and revitalizing properties. It is a classic street beverage and tastes best when consumed immediately.

ABOUT THE RECIPE:

I’ve used purple sugarcane for this recipe. Green sugarcane can also be used for this recipe.

Purple sugarcane has stronger sweetness and rich flavour to it. Whereas, the green sugarcane is a hybrid variety and has mild sweetness to it. Green sugarcane yields more juice compared to the purple sugarcane, and is most commonly used in making sugar.

Purple sugarcane doesn’t need extra sweetness to it. But, when you use green sugarcane, add 1 tsp of sugar to 1 cup of juice.

I’ve used two 1.5 feet stalk of sugarcane for this recipe. This yields around 500ml of sugarcane juice.

Two bamboo tubes lying on a wooden surface.
  • Add few chopped sugarcane to a blender along with 1 inch piece ginger, half lemon juice and few ice cubes.

*Do not add all the sugarcane pieces at a time. Blend them in portions. This helps the sugarcane to blend completely.
